After a grueling workout at the gym, I arrived home and spotted something in the driveway. Due to the fogged-up windows, I couldn't identify the creature. As I gathered my belongings and headed towards the door, I noticed that it was either a frog or a toad. However, I was uncertain about picking it up as I wasn't sure if it would pee on me or poison me. Later, I researched and found out that the two creatures are quite similar and belong to the same family.
Although they belong to different species, the differences between frogs and toads are subtle. One of the distinctions is the texture of their skin; toads usually have dry, bumpy and warty skin, while frogs have smooth and slimy skin. Since this incident happened at night, I might not have been able to see the difference in poor lighting conditions. Their physical structure also sets them apart. Frogs usually have long, thin legs and webbed back feet that aid them in swimming. In contrast, toads have shorter, stubby and muscular legs as they spend more time on land. Additionally, toads tend to have poisonous sacs under their eyes, which makes them unpalatable for predators. Certain species of frogs can be poisonous to the touch, mostly found in the rainforest. Their reproductive methods also differ. Frogs lay their eggs in a circular pattern, while toads lay their eggs in long strings. Furthermore, researchers have discovered that the two creatures have distinct sounds. After my research, I concluded that the creature I saw in the driveway was a toad. I was pleased with myself and closed my computer.
